About Dupion plain fabric
Texture: It is known for its crisp, slightly irregular texture and the presence of slubsthick, irregular knobs or bumps that run horizontally across the fabric. These slubs are a key feature and are created by using an uneven yarn reeled from two or more entangled silkworm cocoons in the weft (horizontal threads).
Sheen: It has a high luster and a shimmery surface.
Weave: It is a plain weave silk fabric.
Hand (Feel): It has a crisp hand, meaning it is relatively stiff and holds its shape well.
Weight: It is typically thicker and heavier than other silks like shantung, which it is often compared to.
Iridescence (Shot Silk): Dupioni is often woven with two different colors of threadone color in the warp (vertical) and a different color in the weft (horizontal). This technique is called "shot silk" and gives the fabric an iridescent, color-changing, or shimmering effect as the light hits it at different angles.
